Hilgeman 21st Lieutenant Timothy Hilgeman has served with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for sixteen years, starting his career in May of 2005.

Lieutenant Hilgeman has served in the Uniform Patrol Division as a Deputy, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May of 2016, was promoted the rank of Lieutenant in April of 2017, and was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in October of 2021. His certifications include field training officer program manager, police internal affairs, speed measurement devices, advanced report writing, FFA certified drone pilot, Federal Emergency Management Agency Major Event Planning, and Incident Command Integration.  His leadership training includes First Line Supervisor, Middle Management, and the FBI - Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Trilogy; successfully completing the 286th Supervisor Leadership Institute, the 306th Command Leadership Institute, and the 241st Executive Leadership Institute.

Lieutenant Hilgeman is a graduate of the Florida Sheriff's Association Commanders Academy, Class VII.

Lieutenant Hilgeman served previously with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer.  1st Lieutenant Hilgeman is a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force.  He retired September 30, 2016, after serving on active and reserve duty for 24 years.

Lieutenant Hilgeman is a member of the American Legion, Arcadia Elks, DeSoto Gun Club, and the FBI-LEEDA Development Association. 

Effective October 3, 2021, Lieutenant Hilgeman was transferred to the School Resource Safety Program, his duties include supervision of Court House Security and Emergency Management Operations.
