Detective Christian Friend is a DeSoto County native who takes great pride in serving the community he was raised in. Detective Friend began his Law Enforcement career at the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office in 2014. Detective Friend was first appointed as a Corrections Deputy in the DeSoto County Jail. After two years of service in the Jail, Detective Friend made the transfer to the Uniformed Patrol Bureau in 2016. Since Detective Friend's transfer, he has had the privilege of working in the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) and the Narcotics Unit. In CID, Detective Friend was primarily tasked with property crimes and crimes against person(s). In the Narcotics Unit, Detective Friend is tasked with traffic interdiction and all narcotics related investigations.Detective Friend was promoted to K-9 Handler in the Narcotics Unit in October of 2018. As a K-9 Handler, Detective Friend oversees the care of his K-9 partner, Kita, as well as investigative responsibilities.
Detective Friend has attended several specialized training courses. This training includes Law Enforcement Academy, Speed Measurement, Interviews and Interrogations, Crisis Intervention, Excellence in Sexual Assault Response and Management of the K-9 Unit.

Police K-9 Kita is a Belgian Malinois and was originally born in Belgium on September 22nd, 2017. Kita became a member of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office on March 11th, 2019. Kita is a single purpose narcotics detection and person(s) tracking K-9. Kita has over 200 hours of narcotics detection and tracking training under her collar. Other than being a crime fighting and narcotics finding partner, Kita also enjoys playing tug and going for runs with her loyal companion, Detective Friend.
