 Employment Opportunities 

It is the policy of the Desoto County Sheriff's Office to distribute Job Application Packages only when actively recruiting for any open position.  Employment Interest Forms will be utilized to obtain PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING information during open recruitment.  Potential applicants will be notified only in the event that pre-employment screening requirements have been met.  Employment interest forms received will remain on file for one year and potential applicants will be notified only in the event that recruitment for open positions begins within that year and pre-employment screening qualifications have been met.

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE CURRENT FDLE/CJSTC STANDARDS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OR CORRECTIONS OFFICER POSITIONS.  INTEREST FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED FOR NON-CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OR NON-CERTIFIED CORRECTIONS POSITIONS.

 

Sponsorship by a Law Enforcement Agency is not required to attend a Law Enforcement or Corrections Academy.  Applicants interested in obtaining FDLE/CJSTC standards must utilize personal resources to attend training.  Information may be obtained through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

 

FLORIDA LAW REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OR CORRECTIONS OFFICER POSITIONS:

  •             Be at least 19 years age.
  •             Be a High School graduate or its equivalent.
  •             Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.  Any person who, after July 1, 1981 pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding, suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  •             Must be fingerprinted by employing agency.
  •             Must pass a physical examination and drug screening
  •             Must be of good moral character as determined by an extensive background investigation, which by Agency policy includes a Certified Voice Stress Analysis Examination.
  •             Must meet or surpass all requirements of a background investigation.

SUPPORT STAFF:

 

  •             Must be a minimum of 18 year of age.
  •             Must meet minimum job requirements for position applied for.
  •             Be a High School graduate or its equivalent.
  •             Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.  Any person who, after July 1, 1981 pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding, suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  •             Must be fingerprinted by employing agency.
  •             Must pass a drug screening, a physical examination may or may not be required.
  •             Must be of good moral character as determined by an extensive background investigation, which by Agency policy includes a Certified Voice Stress Analysis Examination.
  •             Must meet or surpass all requirements of a background investigation.
  •             A Test of Basic Adult Education (TABE) examination may be required for persons that are not currently employed or have not been active in the work force within the past 3 years at the discretion of the Sheriff.
